Lock on Neath Canal at Tonna

Ty’n-yr-Heol

Ty’n-yr-Heol was a house once lived in by a renowned harpist named Jenny Jones. She won a prize for her playing during the National Eisteddfod in 1883. However, in death she seems reluctant to stop playing her beloved instrument, as there are reports of music coming from the room in which the harp was stored following her passing.

Visitor Information

Tonna (Welsh: Tonnau) is a village in Neath Port Talbot, Wales.

It is located to the northeast of Neath town, of which it is effectively a suburb. Once mainly agricultural fields, the name derives from the archaic Welsh tonnau, meaning grassland and not, as is sometimes assumed, the modern Welsh for "waves".
